The Sony Ericsson Satio is a 3.5 inch TFT touch screen camera phone capable of displaying up to 16 million colours. The phone is controlled by the touch screen along with a few buttons on the sides and the front of the phone.
Controls
The front buttons are for accepting a call, ending a call and a menu button which takes you to the main menu each time you touch it. The menu button is very similar to the Apple Iphone.
The left hand side of the Satio houses the screen unlock button, the connection for docking to a computer, which also is the same connection for headphones and the power adaptor and the microSD port.
With the right hand side of the Satio there is a zoom button for the camera. A button for switching between shooting video and static images. A play button which displays your photos and finally a decent size shutter button which has a cool blue light that glows around it. This means you can operate the phone from the buttons without having to use the touch screen if you do not want to.
The bulk of the Satio’s functionality is operated from the touch screen. The screen is bright and clear with an easy to use icon style interface. Actually choosing something on screen is easy as the touch screen is incredibly responsive to touch. If you do not want to get grease marks all over the screen, then you can use the stylus supplied with the phone instead of your sausage fingers!
Camera
The Sony Ericsson Satio is equipped with a Cybershot 12.1 megapixel autofocus camera with a Xenon flash and touch focusing, with a quality lens protected by a slide cover on the back. The camera features red eye reduction, image stabiliser, face detection, best pic, sports mode, macro mode. There is no doubt the Satio is loaded with camera features which allow you to take a decent photo and upload to the web.
As well as still images the Satio is capable of shooting video at 30 frames per second with a light for shooting in dark conditions.
GPS
Assisted GPS for use with Google maps and for marking your photos with location information Geo-Tagging.
Web Browsing
Web pages are viewed with Sony’s own web browser using 3G HDSPA where available, if you manage to get a 3G signal then the web browsing should be pretty fast. The 3.5 inch screen makes viewing web pages easy, which can be viewed in portrait or landscape by just tilting the phone thanks to the built in accelerometer.
Multimedia
The media player can play most popular music formats and it supports play lists and album art. If you get fed up with your own music there is an FM RDS radio to listen to. The media player can also handle playing videos and there is also a You Tube application for watching videos online, but you will need a 3G connection.
Memory
Out of the box the Satio comes with an 8GB MicroSD card for storing a substantial music and photo collection. If that is not enough then the Satio can be be expanded up to 32GB by changing the MicroSD card.
