Nokia E71 ReviewThe Nokia E71 is a smart phone with a difference. It is not a brick. Chrome backed and slim it could win an award for sexy looks. Packed with loads of features the E71 is as functional as it is sexy. With almost identical dimensions as the IPhone, could this be a challenge to the IPhone? |

Camera
The E71 comes with a 3.2 mega pixel camera with auto focus, LED flash and x2 digital zoom. The lens is a small piece of plastic so it does not mater how good the mega pixels are the photos are not going to be the best available for a camera phone. But then if the camera were the primary use of the phone other than making calls then you would probably have bought an eight-mega pixel camera phone like the LG Renoir, which has Schneider Kreuznach optics.
Video Camera
As well as still photos the E71 camera is capable of shooting video at 15 frames per second. There is also a secondary front camera for making and receiving video calls.
Keyboard
Like the Blackberry range of phones the Nokia E71 has a qwerty-thumbed-keyboard, which is very useful for writing and sending emails and text messages, even producing documents on the go. However you would probably find it hard going writing any large documents using it.
Web Browsing
The Nokia Web browser supports HTML, XHTML and even supports flash lite (unlike the Apple IPhone). Web surfing should be super fast as the phone has 3G capabilities as long as you are in a 3G area.
Enterprise Applications
The Nokia E71 has been designed and targeted for business use with a whole host of business applications. Including Microsoft Office document creation and viewing. Microsoft Exchange for syncing email, contacts and calendar entries. PDF viewer, VPN client, remote wipe and advanced call manager for filtering and blocking calls. There is also support for standard email like Gmail. Email can pushed to the handset by signing up for Nokia Messaging.
Media Player
The E71 Media Player supports most types of music files including mp3, .wma, .aac, AAC+, and eAAC+. There is also the Nokia Music Store client for buying tracks and downloading them direct to the handset. The phone is also equipped with an FM radio.
Storage
The E71 does not have massive amounts of storage like the IPhone or N96. It comes equipped out of the box with 110MB but can be upgraded to 8GB using a MicroSD card.
Conclusion
The Nokia E71 is a great all rounder, looks cool with its chrome finish, is a decent size, has excellent business applications, fast web surfing with 3G and it even has a 3.2 mega pixel camera for convenience. This phone although targeted for the business user is just as useful to anyone that wants to surf the web, send and receive emails and yes even use it as a phone!
